The EMCA has a number of ways that patients and carers can get involved and represent patient voice to help us deliver excellent cancer services.

If you have had cancer and have been provided with treatment and care in the East Midlands region, or are a carer or someone who has been affected by cancer in the East Midlands and want to help improve the delivery of cancer services across this region, there are a number of ways you can get involved:

  • The Alliance Board has a patient representative who acts as a conduit for the patient advocates who work with the Alliance.
  • Become a patient advocate on one of our Expert Clinical Advisory Groups (ECAGS).  You can find out more about the work of ECAGs by following the link.
  • Join our patient representative group who meet regularly to discuss new EMCA priorities and work programmes.
  • Share your story at one of our Board meetings.
  • Join our wider virtual group of engaged patients and receive regular updates on the Alliance's activities and provide input to the Alliance without attending meetings.
  • Get involved in your local area with a patient group or charity or join your patient group associated with your Trust or your Integrated Care System (ICS).

Patient Advocates

By also operating as an extensive virtual network, patient advocates make it easy for everyone to be heard and contribute, regardless of their work, personal commitments or circumstances. If anyone is unable to attend meetings and events in person, people can still engage in online surveys, comment on documents, publications or key issues and share their personal stories.

Help grow the people's voice

Work with us to grow the people's voice. The more information we have from patients and public, the better placed we are to make informed decisions and improve services, health and care outcomes across the East Midlands.

With the help of patients, carers, families and the public, we are already doing a great deal:

  • Providing patient advocacy in clinical advisory meetings
  • Co-producing patient information
  • Proactively involved in the re-configuration of services
