An innovative initiative, originally developed at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) and delivered in collaboration with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Primary Care Liaison Nurse Team (PCLN), has been shortlisted for the 2025 Nursing Times Awards! 🎉

The project, led by Lucy Peck, Project and Service Development Coordinator in Pathology at QMC, focuses on increasing participation in NHS Bowel Cancer Screening across the East Midlands and East of England. In partnership with Nottinghamshire ICB Learning Disability Nurses, Lucy designed a targeted intervention to support individuals with learning disabilities—one of the most vulnerable groups—encouraging their engagement in bowel cancer screening.

💡 The impact has been profound: the team successfully supported many patients through screening, leading to early detection of cancers that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

This Learning Disability Bowel Cancer Screening Project is now a finalist in the Learning Disabilities category at the Nursing Times Awards!
