Our operational performance plan will concentrate on improving the Cancer Waiting Times across three standards set by NHS England:

  • 28-day faster diagnosis – people should have cancer ruled out or receive their diagnosis within 28 days of an urgent cancer referral.
  • 31-day standard performance – people should begin their treatment for cancer within 31 days of a decision to treat.
  • 62-day standard performance – people should begin their treatment for cancer within 62 days of the hospital receiving the urgent cancer referral.

We will do this by:

  • Prioritising resource to improve the Cancer Waiting Time performance by working with clinical and diagnostic services to develop workplans focussed on this improvement.
  • Regularly reviewing funding to maximise impact across our footprint and making sure that funding is being used appropriately and effectively.
  • Promoting the National Cancer Waiting Times guidance across our providers throughout the East Midlands.
  • Regularly reviewing the data for Cancer Waiting Times to analyse the causes of underperformance and agree improvement plans with our partners.
